Our Doctors

Dr. Robert Dors

Dr. Robert Dors was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario before attending the University of Waterloo for both his undergraduate and Doctor of Optometry program. He graduated in 1989 and began full family eyecare practice in Meaford. In April 1990, the Owen Sound clinic was opened. In 2006 with the arrival of Dr Joseph Traynor and the subsequent arrival of Dr Andrea Traynor in 2007, Dr Dors and Traynor opened a second clinic in Thornbury. 

In addition to his optometry degree, Dr Dors is also certified in laser vision correction co-management and is a sucessful laser vision patient himself. In 1993, he completed the Therapeutic Management of Ocular Disease program from Northeastern State University School of Optometry in Oklahoma.

When not seeing patients and operating a business, hockey, golf, coaching ringette and woodworking occupy much of his spare time. He is married with twin daughters Brittany and Madison. Dr Dors is a Rotary Club member since 1990, a regular blood donor and season ticket holder for the Owen Sound Junior A Hockey club. Go Attack Go!

Dr. Joe Traynor

Dr. Joe Traynor grew up in the Owen Sound area before heading off to attend university in Waterloo. At the University of Waterloo he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree followed by his Doctor of Optometry Degree, both with Dean's Honours List distinction.

During his years at Waterloo, Dr. Traynor gained experience in many areas of vision care, including primary eye care, contact lenses, binocular vision and low vision. His final year of studies included various clinical rotations, including several months in Salt Lake City, where he focused on the diagnosis and medical management of ocular disease. 

Dr. Traynor returned to his hometown in 2006 to begin his practice. In 2007, Dr. Andrea Traynor joined the practice and a second office location was opened to serve the Town of the Blue Mountains. 

Dr. Traynor is currently a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the College of Optometrists of Ontario, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. He takes part regularly in the Eye See Eye Learn program for junior kindergarten students. Dr. Traynor is certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications for the treatment of ocular diseases.

Dr. Traynor is the proud dad to two incredible boys and happily spends his free time assisting with their minor sports teams. As an avid runner and golfer, Dr. Traynor can also be spotted on the roads and fairways when he is not in the office.

Dr. Andrea Traynor

Dr. Andrea Traynor was born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. While growing up she was actively involved in various sports and cultural activities such as volleyball, track & field, and Ukrainian dance. 

She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Manitoba before attending the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo. In 2007 she obtained her Doctor of Optometry Degree with Dean's Honours distinction and moved to the Owen Sound area to join her husband.

She currently practices in Owen Sound and Thornbury and provides a full range of optometric services. She is currently an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the College of Optometrists of Ontario, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. She is licensed to prescribe therapeutics to treat a wide range of eye diseases.

Dr. Traynor currently lives in the town of Meaford. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their two wonderful boys.

Dr. Nikki Huggins

Dr. Nikki Huggins was born and raised in Ontario, and has lived throughout the province, from Toronto to Sudbury to Sioux Lookout. She graduated from Brock University in Honours Health Sciences followed by the University of Waterloo with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2007. As part of her training, she completed an externship in Ocular Disease and Therapeutics in Farmington Hills, Michigan and Primary Care externships in Dryden and St. Catharines.

Currently a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists, she has been practicing primary care optometry in St. Catharines and Welland, as well as locum optometry in Dryden since graduation. Her hobbies include swimming, dragonboating, skiing, snowboarding, knitting and gardening.

Dr. Madison Dors

Dr. Madison Dors was born and raised in Owen Sound, Ontario. She is a familiar face in the office as she has been a member of our team since 2009. 

Following in her father’s footsteps, she attended the University of Waterloo for both her undergraduate and Doctor of Optometry degrees. Having graduated in 2020, Madison now practices in both our Owen Sound and Thornbury locations.

She has also been certified in Surgical Procedure for the Optometric Physician, as well as Laser Therapy for the Anterior Segment from Northeastern State University College of Optometry in Oklahoma. Through her clinical rotations she was also able to work at a Cherokee Nation Clinic in Oklahoma providing ocular health and disease management services to the indigenous population.

Madison takes pride in her previous travels to the Dominican Republic where she was able to provide optical support to children in need. She also enjoys watching our local hockey/slo-pitch teams, exploring our conservation areas and staying active with her favorite puppy.
