COVID-19 OFFICE GUIDELINES

To help create a safe environment for all of our patients and team members, the following standard operating procedures have been implemented in our clinics. These guidelines have been adapted from the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Optometrists and Public Health Ontario. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, these guidelines may be subject to change based upon new directives obtained from our regulatory bodies.

PATIENTS:

All patient visits to our clinic will be BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. This includes appointments for eye exams, access to our frame gallery, and product pick-ups.

All patients will be screened for COVID-19 prior to entering our clinic.

  • If they are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, they are not to enter the clinic and will be directed to contact Public Health.
  • If they have travelled outside of Canada within the past 14 days, they are not to enter the clinic until their isolation period is complete.
  • If they have been a close contact to someone with COVID-19, they are not to enter the clinic and will be directed to contact Public Health.

All patients over the age of 2 entering our clinic are required to wear a mask that properly covers their nose and mouth. This mask must remain on for the entire time the patient is inside our clinic.

All patients are required to sanitize their hands as soon as they enter the clinic.

All patients are asked to maintain a social distance of ~2 meters when possible.

All patients are asked to arrive for their appointment on time. Appointments have been scheduled in such a way to keep the number of patients in clinic simultaneously to a minimum. Late arriving patients may need to reschedule.

All patients are asked to come to their appointments alone and to only bring items that are necessary for their appointment. When required, 1 care giver (parent, support worker, etc) will be permitted. Drivers and other family members will be asked to stay in their cars.

All patients in our frame gallery will be asked to wait until a team member is available to assist them with their frame selections. Patients must continue to wear their masks while trying on frames.

PHYSICAL BARRIERS:

Plexiglass barriers have been installed at our reception desk.

Where possible, plastic shields have also been added to devices (slit lamp, pupilomoters, etc)

SANITIZATION:

Every device that a patient comes in contact with is thoroughly disinfected before use with the next patient

  • All surfaces that come into direct contact with the patient (chin rests, forehead rests, etc) are disinfected with alcohol solution (70-95% ethyl/isopropyl alcohol) or mixture of bleach/water
  • All chairs, door knobs, counter tops, and other touch surfaces are disinfected with bleach/water solution or Lysol wipes
  • All glasses frames that are touched by a patient are cycled through a UV sterilization unit before returning to the display boards

Team member work areas (keyboards, mouse, desk area, etc) are to be sanitized regularly throughout the day.

CONTACT-LESS PROCEDURES:
